Est. 2021 · Byron Bay, AU

Two friends, one sketchbook, a lot of sunscreen.

Spicy Dugong started at a picnic table in Wategos Beach with a stack of paper, a handful of Posca pens, and a shared refusal to wear another logo tee. Five years on, we're still drawing everything by hand.

Spicy Dugong founders on the beach

We make the pieces we couldn't find: heavyweight retro long sleeves, terry sets that actually fit, and screen-prints that don't crack after two washes. Every print starts as a real drawing — sometimes it's a dugong drifting past a coral shelf, sometimes it's a bowl of bakso we ate on a surf trip in Sumbawa.

We produce in small batches with a family-run cut-and-sew workshop in Melbourne and a screen printer we've been working with since day one. Nothing ships until it feels right in the hand.

About twenty percent of what we make comes from the little humans in our lives — the nieces who lost the previous prototype at the beach, the nephews who insisted the dolphins needed sunglasses. The kids line exists because they kept stealing the adult samples.
